Amanda Richards

I am a registered therapeutic counsellor with the Association of Cooperative Counsellors and Therapists, soon to be incorporated into the College of Psychology in BC.

Prior to training as a counsellor, I worked in the film industry since 1988 in many capacities. I owned and operated a film catering company for many years and found that my kitchen provided a safe place for people to come and share their work upsets, and be nourished at the same time. Later when I worked as a Teamster driver for executives, directors and cast, there was much to discuss about human dynamics, both with individuals’ personal experience and interpersonal. Having been married for 20 years to a film maker/director/camera operator, I spent much time on set supporting various departments during independent projects.

 My ability to communicate effectively is what has made my work experiences successful.

 I have come to realize both through my work experience and through my training that mental health support is a great way to keep people inspired and be their best self, both for their own performance and for team efficiency.

 In addition, I bring my movement history into my somatic therapeutic practice to help clients anchor any dysregulation in their bodies, and help them to make sense of any upset quickly in order to return to peace.

 My education includes:

  • certification in Accelerated Experiential Developmental Psychotherapist (AEDP Level 1);

  • training in Inherent Family Trauma (Mark Wolynn, Director of the Burt Hellinger center);

  • Compassionate Inquiry with Dr. Gabor Mate;

  • Attachment Theory with Dr Gordon Nuefeld, Level 1 & 2 Intensives;

  • Currently training in Somatic Experiencing SE ( Peter Levine) and Level 3 Spacial Dynamics Train the Trainers; and

  • Intimacy Coordination.

 I am insured for North America under Easy Cover for both cyber privacy and professional liability.
