COVID-19 Risk Reduction
Given the nature of acting work, performers are at a higher risk of exposure to Sars-CoV-2 than others working in film and TV. When scenes of intimacy (kissing, physical contact, physical contact while nude, simulated sexual activity, etc.) are part of the story, the risk level for performers further increases. The National Society of Intimacy Professionals has produced a living document entitled The Intimacy & COVID-19 Risk Assessment Chart. Principal Intimacy Professionals reference this document alongside the COVID-19 Prevention Strategies: Intimacy Scenes & Performer Safety Handbook with making script breakdowns. These breakdowns inform our team as well as the production of the risks identified in a script or screenplay in a numbered average. We also offer risk reduction suggestions to production to help bring the total risk average down to safer levels. These breakdowns are a standard for all projects Principal Intimacy Professionals is hired on; productions can opt for a full breakdown (entire script) or a breakdown associated with intimacy and close proximity.
Wellness Facilitation
A wellness facilitator is a professional who observes and helps to maintain the mental and physical well being of the cast and crew on set. They can assist with and support interdepartmental communication, alternative leadership styles, strategic planning, a new language for professional spaces, stress management, and neutral individual support. They work closely with the intimacy coordinator team to ensure the team is operating sustainably with the goal of productions adopting these practices moving forward.
Collaboration
Our team was instrumental in the development of provincial and national standards, protocols and best practices with organisations including CAEA, UBCP, and ACTRA and have offered webinars through Actsafe Association. Some of our members are also a part of the committee creating intimacy certification standards with the National Society of Intimacy Professionals.
